There will soon be a smart button in your car you can push in case of emergencies!
Titled the eCall system, the button will send a distress signal to the police command control centre and allow emergency personnel to locate the vehicle within a matter of seconds, reports Khaleej Times. The introduction of the eCall system was announced by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) at Gitex Technology Week.
All new vehicles imported to the UAE from 2019 will be equipped with the smart feature, and the initiative has been rolled out in coordination with the police forces of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The UAE will be the first country in the Middle East to implement the initiative.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director-General, said: "The eCall initiative is part of the TRA's mission to improve the quality of services to the people, and enhance community happiness."
How does it work?
The eCall system will automatically sense the magnitude of the accident and connect the vehicle to the the nearest emergency centre, accurately transmitting the geographical location of the incident as well as other relevant data.
Regardless of whether the call is made automatically or manually, the eCall system will provide voice communication between the vehicle and emergency centre staff. Passengers can answer questions about their condition, and provide the emergency centre with more data to ensure appropriate assistance is provided.
The system will prove especially useful in situations where the driver is unable to communicate due to injury.
In a country like the UAE, where traffic accidents occur daily, this is an essential step forward that will help save many lives.
