Academic achievements on the rise at one of Ajman’s most popular schools.

Investment in Ajman Modern sees spike in academic Achievements.

April 24th, 2019:  One of Ajman’s most popular community schools has seen a spike in the academic achievements of its students as sweeping changes in the school have raised standards and expectations all-round. The School has served the community since 2005 and has historically served Emirati and expatriates in equal measure.  In the past 12 months, the school has invested in international teachers, new technologies and upgraded facilities to meet the goals of the UAE National Agenda 2021 and for the improvement of the educational experience of its students.

In the school’s recent round of Measure of Academic Progress (MAPs) testing in English, Math and Science, there was a 590% increase in students meeting grade level norms across the school. The strongest progress is in Maths with an average of 10 point increase, followed by Science and English. In order to gain these remarkable results, key changes have been implemented such as extra core subject teaching, smaller grouping, and pull out classes to prepare the students for the forthcoming Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMMS) assessments in little over a week’s time. The results are a testament to the new and existing teachers’ commitment to improve, and parents are seeing the results.

Marie Abi Nader, an AMS parent with 4 children in the school commented, “Academically, the school is going in the right direction and we are so happy with the new leadership.”

One of the biggest changes within the school has been the appointment of US curriculum teachers. The school follows the New York Standards; and adapts it to the local context. Teachers have undergone over 100 hours of training to support the implementation of the curriculum, and the new Head of Elementary ,Anu Nebhnani has been at the forefront of this. Anu commented, “Every teacher in the school has been driven to improve. We want every lesson to be engaging, fun and challenging and we are not satisfied with where we are- the journey never stops!”

The grade 4 & 8 students have undergone a rigorous transformation to work specifically on their math and science knowledge leading up to the TIMMS assessment, spearheaded by Anu. The MAPS results are just the beginning of progress and increased attainment by Ajman Modern School students.

Furthermore, the Board of Governors is actively committed to the School’s improvement and has invested in quality teachers, and modern resources, and new facilities to improvethe learning experience. The School will remain a pillar of the local community in Ajman but it has taken drastic steps to align to international standards. The school’s new Head of High School, Aaron J. Betts, supports this by saying, “At AMS we are continuously looking to improve and build on our success. We have a lot of momentum with teachers and parents at the moment and this has given us confidence to really focus on the students’ learning.”
