Peru is the third largest country in South America and one of the 20 largest in the world - its surface area covers more than the territories of Spain and France combined. Peru has an enormous range of landscapes due to its geographical conditions, which in turn give it a great diversity of natural resources.
Commenting on this, Mr. Luis Torres, the Executive President of PROMPERÚ, said, “Peru is the ideal destination for those who love soaking in history. There’s no better introduction to historical Peru than the Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes mountains. Passion for Peru becomes stronger as the country is home to a section of Amazon rainforest as well.”
Mr. Eduardo Ferreyros, Commissioner General of Peru for Expo 2020 Dubai, said, “We are pleased to promote Peru’s unique values to the tourists from this part of the world. Dubai is the ideal platform for us to showcase our offerings and valued-added experience as citizens of more than 200 countries live in this city. Peru has been the fastest growing economy in Latin America over the last decade. The nation has been ranked among top travel destinations of the people in the UAE and the region.”
Peru has been positioned higher in the coveted 'Top Countries in the World' list by the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler magazine. Peru is also the most awarded country in South America, reiterating its position as an excellent tourist offer and varied gastronomy, the perfect combination that the world acknowledges.
The Latin American charm
Discovering Peru is going into 5,000 years of live history. Ancient traditions and customs bring Peruvians together, as a solid bridge between the present and the past. Having twelve UNESCO world heritage sites and vast natural reserves, Peru is riddled with magnificent archaeological sites that tell the story of ancient civilizations.
“Peru is the richest country in the world when it comes to experiencing the most unforgettable moments. And these experiences begin on a trip to Peru, a place where the diversity and authenticity of the culture, nature and food hold the essence of life itself,” adds Mr Ferreyros.
Machu Picchu fascinates because of the mysticism felt in its ‘Andenes’ and of the amazing perfection of its stone walls. This architectural wonder from the times of the Incas was recognized as ‘Heritage of Humankind’ and later declared as one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Modern World’.
Eat all you can
The best way to stomach all the history of Peru is to intersperse sightseeing with leisurely meals, and frequent beverages. The Peruvian food is an important expression of its own culture. For tourists, Peruvian gastronomy is a pleasure to enjoy with all the senses. Eating delectable Peruvian food is exploring a world of new flavors, fragrances and textures.
Peru has emerged as a special gastronomic destination with a huge variety of native food products that grow in its different regions with multiple climates and properties; becoming each in its exquisite tradition.
“At the Expo Peru Dubai 2019, we showcase Peru’s delicious and acclaimed gastronomy covering its three regions. Our culinary history, an epitome of fusion, dates back to the Incas and pre-Incas, later influenced by the arrival of the Spanish colonies, and inclusive of the demands of migrant groups from China, Europe, Japan and African countries throughout the years.”
A melting pot of cultures
The nation's thriving melting pot of cultures reflect a vibrant, diverse community, many with roots as far back to the Incas and other sophisticated pre-Columbian civilizations. The cultural legacy still lives on in the art, customs and traditions found in modern-day Peru. The highly diverse country has 11 eco-regions and 84 of the 117 life zones that exist in the world.
Peru is a mega-diverse country with habitats ranging from the arid plains of the Pacific coastal region in the west to the peaks of the Andes mountains vertically extending from the north to the southeast of the country to the tropical Amazon Basin rainforest in the east with the Amazon river.
Peru is a country of epic scale with its awe-inducing Andean peaks dropping abruptly down to the desert, culminating in a surf-bashed rocky coastline. This invaluable natural wealth of the country and tourist attractions can be appreciated in the Expo 2020 Dubai.
