Ride Ajman Returns

Ajman, UAE (January 23, 2017) - Now in its second year and held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of ATTDD & Department of Lands and Properties, the first-class cycling event has expanded to a 104km route with full road closures starting on the Ajman corniche and making its way across the Emirate.

New to 2017, a dedicated 52km UAE National Development Race open to UAE Nationals to encourage interest and participation in the cycling and sporting journey and position the UAE and in particular Ajman as a hub for cycling professionals and those new to the sport.

In addition, a 7km charity ride will take place at 4pm on the same day and is open to all cyclists, visitors and residents who want to enjoy the event and the beautiful scenery Ajman has to offer. The proceeds of the charity ride will be donated to Al Jalila Foundation, the charity partner.

Over 800 cyclists are expected to participate in the second Ride Ajman event, a significant increase on the first event, as popularity in the sport continues to grow in the UAE and facilities and events for cyclists keep getting stronger.  

Included in the group of early morning cyclists and supporters will be Team Angel Wolf, sponsored by the Fairmont Ajman. The team will be taking part at this year’s Ride Ajman in order raise awareness children with disabilities.

The event will be followed by an awards ceremony and celebratory breakfast where a number of trophies and prizes will be presented for the top three spots for males and females in the 104km race, and top spot for male and females in the junior category for the same race. The top spot for male and female in the 52km UAE National Development race will also be rewarded and there will be a prize draw for those in the charity ride.

Speaking at the pre-event press conference, held at Fairmont Ajman this morning, His Excellency, Faisal Al Nuaimi, General Manager of ATDD, said: “We are continuously looking at innovative ways to promote Ajman as the ideal venue for sports as well as the perfect location for tourists from within the UAE and abroad. This is the second year we will be hosting this fantastic event with full support from the authorities and we will be building on last year’s success to offer a unique race for all cyclists.”
